Korean War Era Japan Souvenir Shirt

A friend's father in Japan during the Korean War. (in the middle)
They're wearing silk souvenir shirts. Don't ya just love Kodachrome? We went on the hunt for a an example of this shirt and found one obviously from the same designer. The same colorway but the design features cranes instead of koy, Arrows and a kimono instead of a Samurai helmet. These shirts feature surprisingly good tailoring and design btw. Check out the unique construction of the button placket.

The button placket seen inside out. Note the wavy stitching. The interfacing is a piece of handwoven cotton.

This beautiful Hawaiian style souvenir shirt is now available on the site.

Webb Young Handwoven Ties Catalogue

1930s tie catalogue by Webb Young, Trader. Hand woven ties by the mountain people of New Mexico. Reads a little like a J. Peterman catalogue I think? Beautiful ties. Great colors and patterns.

Stetson 60th Anniversary Crossword Puzzle from 1925

Click to enlarge, then right click and save. Then open the saved file and print.

The stetson hat company in 1925 was a company lauded by Elbert Hubbard and others for their concern and care of their employees and focus on the quality of their product. A company hospital and other benefits were provided. The company magazine "The HatBox" often carried crosswords to solve-they were all the rage at the time. We recently scored an amazing never worn Stetson "Comfort" bowler from this time period. It's one of their "Select" line or grade.
Check out the breather holes perforated in the crown in a balkenkreuz form.

Here are the answers to the above puzzle. Remember no cheating!

The Railroad Trainman, April 1943

Newsletter of The Brotherhood of Trainmen. Lots of cool wartime content.

Turn of the Century "Sensible" Denim Coveralls Ad

Johnston and Larimer ad for the "Sensible" denim coveralls. "The Modern Work garment" includes the not very prophetic line "Overalls are OUT of Date-Why should YOU wear them any longer?" 2 sided  handbill advertisement. The reverse is the Carhartt ad from a previous post. Nice rough card stock paper with a green tint.

World War I "Kan the Kaiser" Carhartt Overalls Ad

Terrific WWI era ad from Hamilton Carhartt. Engineers work on laying rails while World War One biplanes dogfight overhead.
